Title: Three Sedergreens in Concert

Where: The Barn Gallery, Montsalvat, 7 Hillcrest Avenue, Eltham

When: Tomorrow, 3pm

Tickets: $30/$25; book on 9439 7712

WHEN Bob Sedergreen and his two sons performed their first Father's Day concert at Montsalvat eight years ago, Bob was the only father among them. Now, all three musicians - Bob, Steve and Mal - are fathers, giving added meaning to this annual reunion of the Sedergreen family on stage.

Saxophonist Mal works regularly with his father and also teams up with brother Steve to lead their long-running ensemble, Mistaken Identity. But Bob and Steve - both pianists - rarely perform together and relish the opportunity to spar on stage in front of a willing audience. Tomorrow, the pair will alternate between acoustic piano and a variety of keyboards and synthesisers, while Mal will play various saxophones.

The Sedergreens also invite a selection of guest artists - members of their extended "musical family" - to swell the cast of each Father's Day concert. This year, Lamine Sonko and Shonah Honeyhill Sonko add an African flavour with their Senegalese singing, dancing and drumming, while tap-dancer Grant Swift and his daughter Calisha emphasise the connection between tap rhythms and jazz. Also on the bill are blues guitarist Dene Ford and bassist Kim May.

One of the highlights of tomorrow's colourful and wide-ranging program will be the "Spanish Omelette" suite, featuring a selection of music inspired by Hispanic themes. -- JESSICA NICHOLAS
